The Capture star Holliday Grainger is among the latest set of actors to join the cast of Laird, the new Scotland-set drama from the creator of MobLand.

Best known for playing DCI Rachel Carey in the BBC thriller, Grainger has been announced as part of the additional cast for the upcoming Paramount+ drama, which is being helmed by Jez Butterworth.

Grainger will star alongside Jennifer Ehle, Peter Mullan, Phia Saban, Ruaridh Mollica, Douglas Hodge and Corey Mylchreest in the new series, though their roles have yet to be announced.

They join the previously announced duo of Kenneth Branagh and Peter Sarsgaard, who will play two men on opposing sides in a battle over land in the Scottish Highlands.

The synopsis reads: "Set in the modern Scottish Highlands, Laird is an epic family saga in which a proud Scot defies a shadowy American billionaire (Sarsgaard) hell-bent on buying up the glens.

"Amidst family feuds, buried secrets and star-crossed romances, the Laird of Castle Drummoch (Branagh) remains determined to protect his ancestral lands from oligarchical land grabbing."

Butterworth has created the series with his brother John-Henry and Georgia Lee, while Joe Wright, best known for Pride & Prejudice and Atonement, is attached to direct the pilot episode.

Branagh will serve as an executive producer alongside the Butterworths, Wright, David C Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Charles Finch and Keith Cox.

Filming is currently taking place in Scotland and London, with the series set to premiere exclusively on Paramount+ worldwide. A release date is yet to be announced.

Speaking about the show, Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals at Paramount+, said: "At its heart, Laird is about one man standing his ground against unchecked wealth and power."

"There's something universally resonant about watching someone fight to protect what matters most, and with Kenneth Branagh leading the series, and an equally remarkable creative team, we can't wait for audiences to root for the Laird of Castle Drummoch."

Laird will stream on Paramount+.
