Bangladesh pick Hridoy for one-off Test against Afghanistan

Towhid Hridoy made 350* in an unofficial Test against South Africa A • Cricket South Africa
Bangladesh selectors have included Towhid Hridoy in the Test squad for the one-off match against Afghanistan, to be held in the UAE, from October 9. The selectors have also remained cautious about fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana, who, according to chief selector Habibul Bashar, will be available from October 10.
Hridoy's record-breaking 350 not out for Bangladesh A against South Africa A in an unofficial Test in Potchefstroom earlier this month, helped him return to the Test side, after he had made his debut against Zimbabwe in July.
The selectors have also brought back Jaker Ali into the side, with Amite Hasan getting dropped. Amite made his Test debut in Zimbabwe in July, before getting picked in the Australia tour side, though he didn't play any Tests there.

Four tours, fresh faces and Bangladesh's search for the next level
Nahid has been out of action since July when he suffered a side strain in Zimbabwe. Taskin, who played against Australia, is also missing out due to workload management policy.
"Nahid Rana is available from October 10, so till then we will consider him as ruled out. We want him to be available for the Tests against West Indies and the rest of the 2026-27 season. We are still considering whether he will play the ODIs in the tri-series or he will play in the domestic competitions to get back into the groove," Bashar said.
Meanwhile, three bowlers - offspinner Nayeem Hasan and quicks Musfik Hasan and Iqbal Hossain Emon - will accompany the Test squad as travelling reserves.
The tour hosts Afghanistan haven't however announced the venue yet for the one-off Test against Bangladesh.
