SINGAPORE, Oct 9 — A 36-year-old male motorcyclist was taken to the hospital after his motorcycle was involved in an accident with a tipper truck along the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) yesterday afternoon.

The incident happened at about 4.50pm along BKE towards Woodlands.

Photographs posted by SG Road Vigilante on its Facebook show a Malaysia-registered motorcycle lying on its side between the two rightmost lanes of the expressway.

A motorcyclist is seen standing next to the fallen motorcycle with his leg bloodied.

The tipper truck involved in the accident is stopped in front of the motorcycle, with its male driver standing next to it.

Broken parts, likely from the motorcycle, is seen between the two vehicles.

In response to AsiaOne’s queries, the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force confirmed that the male motorcyclist was taken conscious to Woodlands Hospital.

The police added that the motorcyclist is assisting with ongoing police investigations.

Accidents involving foreign-registered motorcycles

In 2025, there were a total of 1,372 cases of injury and fatal accidents involving foreign-registered motorcycles on roads here in Singapore.

Of these, 31 of such cases resulted in fatalities, while injuries were reported in the remaining 1,341 cases.

In its annual Road Traffic Situation report issued on Feb 26, the Traffic Police pointed out that motorcyclists and elderly pedestrians continue to be the most vulnerable road user groups.

Although motorcycles make up just 15 per cent of Singapore’s total vehicle population, motorcyclists and pillion riders were involved in 54.8 per cent of all traffic accidents and accounted for 53 per cent of traffic fatalities.

The most common causes of accidents are a failure to keep a proper lookout (52 per cent), a failure to have adequate control of the vehicle (11 per cent) and changing lanes without due care (7 per cent), the police stated. — AsiaOne
