Tiffany makes New York theatrical debut with ‘Spandex the Musical’

1980s pop star Tiffany made her New York theater debut in the new Off-Broadway production “Spandex the Musical,” which features a performance of her 1987 hit “I Think We’re Alone Now.”

Tiffany took the spotlight during the staging of the show on Thursday, Sept. 17, with the 54-year-old American pop singer portraying the role of housewife Linda Gustafson who discovers aerobics and later competes in a national contest.

“Spandex the Musical,” which also stars Sims Lamason, Catherine Bradley, and Nawaf Nooruddin, will run for 10 days at Off-Broadway’s Asylum NYC through Sept. 27.

Speaking about the project in a July interview with PEOPLE, Tiffany described it as a “full-circle moment” for her.

“Before music came into my life, I was a dancer and an actor, and those dreams were put on hold when ‘I Think We’re Alone Now’ took off and my recording career began,” she said. “I’ve always believed the right role would find me, and the moment I read the script, I knew Linda was that character.”

Tiffany also noted similarities between her and her character, particularly in discovering new passions.

“It’s a reminder that it’s never too late to reinvent yourself,” she said.

“Making my Off-Broadway debut with such a funny, heartfelt and uplifting show is truly a dream come true,” she added.

Aside from “I Think We’re Alone Now,” Tiffany also scored hits with “Could’ve Been,” “All This Time,” and “I Saw Him Standing There.”
