Inside Pregnant Hilary Swank, Husband Philip Schneider's Private World

Hilary Swank, 52, Pregnant With Baby No. 3 With Husband Philip Schneider
Hilary Swank hadn't intended to wait quite so long to climb into the motherhood ring.
"I personally was happy that I had them later in life," the 52-year-old explained to E! News in April, three years after she and husband Philip Schneider welcomed twins Ohm and Aya. "because now I can give them my full attention in a way that I wouldn't have been able to earlier in life."
Which is why she was confident they were ready for another round, the actress announcing Oct. 14 that she and Schneider, 54, are adding a third child to their team.
After wrapping her new role on Showtime's Yellowjackets, "A lot of people have been asking what project I'm doing next," Swank wrote in the cheeky Instagram clip, "this one releases in December."
Because sometimes things really do get wrapped up all nicely with a bow.
"I always go by the adage, things happen in their time, not ours, and that has always been the case for me," Swank responded to one commenter who lamented her "single and childless" status. "But of course trusting that, for me, has always been the hardest part."
Having found a sparring partner in first husband Chad Lowe, "I knew I wanted kids someday," Swank noted to People in May, "but I wasn't planning what that would look like."
Instead, she was focused on giving round-the-clock care to her acting career, calling it "such a baby of mine."
After all, she and her mom had followed her Hollywood dreams from their native Washington, at times sleeping in their car as Swank booked roles on Beverly Hills, 90210 and the 1994 flick The Next Karate Kid.
By the time she'd nabbed Oscars for both 1999's Boys Don't Cry and 2004's Million Dollar Baby, the actress was ready to nurture her own little family.
Following a five-year relationship with her agent John Campisi and an engagment to tennis pro Ruben Torres, Swank agreed to take another swing at romance when a friend offered to set her up on a blind date with social venture entrepreneur Schneider.
"We met at 10:00 a.m. and parted ways at 11:00 p.m.," Swank reflected to Vogue following their dreamy 2018 wedding amid California's redwood trees. "We clearly enjoyed our time!"

And they continue to do so, Swank noting that having children in her 40s meant she's had more flexibility to dictate her own schedule.
"I'm a very different parent than I would've been, even in my early 40s," Swank continued. "I'm much more patient. I'm much more understanding. I am much more, I think, interested in a different way than I would’ve been."
Which means now, she and Schneider simply get to enjoy the family ski trips and the dance parties to the collection of vinyl they amassed at their 2018 vows.
And she can take the time to weed much of the plastic out of their life while championing causes like California Bill AB 1901, which calls for more transparency in diaper ingredients.
"I've always been really diligent about what I put in my body or on my body," Swank explained to E!, "but having babies makes you think. They're just so vulnerable and more susceptible to toxins and it’s my responsibility as a parent to ensure that I’m doing the best that I can for them."
And, quite frankly, she loves the imposition.
Reflecting on the common refrains she hears from other parents that, "'Oh my God, your life gets kind of taken away. It gets hijacked until they get back in school,'" Swank mused during a 2024 appearance on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna, "I'm like, 'Good. Hijack the heck out of it!'"
Because she and Schneider are certainly enjoying the ride.
"My husband and I are both very, very hands-on and equal partners in parenting," she noted to People. "I feel really blessed to have that."
As she prepares to count yet another blessing, look back on their heavenly journey thus far.

And The Names Are...
After revealing Aya and Ohm's names, Hilary explained that her daughter was named for "a Syrian refugee we met in Lebanon, so she was just this courageous brave young girl full of light going through a really difficult time."
As for son Ohm, his moniker is "considered the first universal sound and unites all people. We thought, 'Oh, that sounds very fitting.'"
