"Kapil Sharma Planted This": Waqar Younis On Navjot Singh Sindhu's Famous 1990 Golden Duck

Former Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis recently reflected on his famous first-ball dismissal of former India batter Navjot Singh Sidhu. Widely regarded as one of the finest pacers in cricket history, Waqar made his international debut in 1989 and finished his career with 789 wickets. Known for his yorkers and deadly reverse swing, he often troubled some of the world's best batters. The dismissal in question came during an Austral-Asia Cup match between India and Pakistan in Sharjah in 1990. Chasing a target of 236 in 50 overs, India lost opener Manoj Prabhakar for 27 with the score at 61.

Following Prabhakar's departure, Sidhu came to the crease but was clean bowled by Waqar off the very first ball he faced. The wicket has remained a talking point among cricket fans over the years, with Sidhu himself occasionally expressing his disappointment over the dismissal.

Speaking recently on the Shubhankar Mishra Podcast, Waqar was asked about the memorable wicket. The Pakistan great responded humorously, jokingly blaming popular Indian comedian Kapil Sharma for repeatedly bringing up the incident and instigating Sidhu on the subject.

Recently, while speaking on the Shubhankar Mishra Podcast, Waqar was asked about his views on the famous dismissal. The Pakistan great hilariously blamed famous Indian comedian Kapil Sharma for instigating Sidhu on this topic.

"I think Kapil Sharma has planted this whole thing in his head. I mean, I know he got out. He got out right here in Sharjah. But they hyped it up so much, and my message to Sidhu paaji is also this: Take it easy, it happens in life," said Waqar.

For the unversed, Sidhu appears on the Kapil Sharma Show as a judge and has been often questioned by the comedian over his viral dismissal against Waqar.

"Because you reacted to it, right? It wouldn't have become such a big story, that he got you out and all that. They kept repeating it again and again, and eventually, Sidhu bhai started getting irritated," he added.

In that match, Pakistan posted 235/9 in 50 overs after being put in to bat. Saleem Yousuf top-scored with 62, while Prabhakar and Ravi Shastri picked up two wickets each for India.

India put up a fight during the chase but were eventually bowled out for 209, handing Pakistan a 26-run victory. Waqar emerged as the standout performer, claiming a brilliant four-wicket haul.
