EXCLUSIVE: Bill and Ted are returning for another excellent adventure, this time in a brand-new video game featuring Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter. More than three decades after the iconic duo last appeared in a video game, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure: Arcade is bringing the beloved 1989 sci-fi comedy to consoles and PC, and ScreenRant has an exclusive first look at the upcoming release.

Developed by Art of Play Interactive and co-produced by Roditeli Productions in partnership with Creative Licensing Corporation, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure: Arcade is a retro-inspired, 16-bit-style adventure that recreates the story of the original movie. Players will take control of Bill S. Preston, Esq. and Ted "Theodore" Logan as they travel through time and the game will feature local co-op.

The most radical news maye just be that Reeves and Winter are lending their voices to the game, bringing the original stars back to their fan-favorite characters in retro arcade pixel-art form! Check out the trailer and our exclusive art, game details, and screenshots below.

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure: Arcade Game Details

The new Bill & Ted game will follow the story of the original 1989 movie, which sees Bill and Ted travel through time to meet historical figures in an effort to pass their high school history class. This arcade adaptation however, will introduce new twists and gameplay mechanics. Game director and co-producer Ash Nicholls:

"We want to fold the iconic elements and key moments of the 1989 movie into a 16-bit pixel arcade game reminiscent of the Konami and Capcom classics of the day. A careful creative mixture of action, adventure, rock and of course downing a whole bowl of ice-cream at Zyggie Piggy. A fun game to play solo or grab your bestie for a fun couch co-op experience."

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure: Arcade is being developed by Art of Play Interactive, whose previous work includes games based on Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, SpongeBob SquarePants, and Spider-Man. The studio is partnering with Roditeli Productions, which previously spearheaded crowdfunding projects involving SWAT Kats and POSTAL.

Fans will be able to support development through digital and physical editions of the game, exclusive merchandise, apparel, and other rewards.

The game''s supported platforms planned for release include PC (via Steam), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Co-producer Kevin Roditeli:

"Crowdfunding is the perfect and only way to bring Bill & Ted back to pixel. This franchise celebrates life and hope, values I believe in during our dark era of click-and-order convenience and retail self-checkout. Crowdfunding is the last place where people share a genuine collective desire to contribute, create something meaningful together, share memories, and be part of a movement. This campaign will be a celebration; we’re bringing back the energy of 1989."

More announcements are on the way, including the involvement of more stars from the movies and some musical guests. For longtime fans, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure: Arcade seeing the characters return again after the third movie, and honoring the classic movie that started it all, for a reimagining of the kind of video game that might have existed when the original film hit theaters in 1989 is quite perfect.
