Pagasa: Bukidnon haze linked to local weather, temperature drop
VALENCIA CITY, Bukidnon — Weather officials have clarified that the early morning haze blanketing parts of Bukidnon is caused by localized weather patterns and temperature drops rather than transboundary smoke from Indonesia.
Weather specialist Christian Emmanuel of the Mindanao Regional Services Division of the Philippine Atmospherical, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), told the Inquirer Saturday morning, September 19, that the fog consists of tiny water droplets formed by continuous early-morning temperature cooling.
Residents, including morning walkers who observed landmarks like Musuan Peak (Mt. Kalayo), a boundary of Valencia City and Maramag town, enveloped in the mist, had initially suspected smoke carried from forest fires in Kalimantan, Indonesia.

However, Emmanuel confirmed that winds originating from the southern part of Mindanao are instead bringing cooler temperatures and localized thunderstorms across the province, with the exception of the Zamboanga Peninsula, which is experiencing the ”habagat”.
Recent temperature records show a drop from 35°C to 33°C in Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro City, while Bukidnon temperatures decreased from 32°C to 30°C.
Meanwhile, weather authorities are monitoring Typhoon Dujuan outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
The storm system is currently blocking cold, dry air currents from the Siberian High. Pagasa advises residents to expect localized thunderstorms to persist through the weekend. /das
