Teacher, student killed in Kajiado aircraft crash
A flying student and his instructor died on Friday morning after their plane crashed in the Kipeto area of Kajiado West Sub-County.
The plane, operated by the Kenya School of Flying from Orly Park in Birika, crashed a few kilometres west of the school near the wind turbines while on a morning routine training session.
Kajiado West Sub-County Police Commander Maureen Kuto said a preliminary report indicated that the accident was caused by poor visibility occasioned by heavy mist.
“They tried a crash landing to save their lives, but instead the plane crashed. The student died on the spot while his instructor died while he was being rushed to a hospital in Kitengela. The student was in advanced training,” said Muti.

The bodies were taken to Kajiado Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation.
At the scene, charred parts of the plane were strewn across the area, but police secured the scene.
Mr John Musa, an eyewitness who arrived at the scene immediately after the crash, said the scene was horrifying, with parts of the plane scattered all over.
“We tried to help, but one person was already dead. The plane had disintegrated into parts,” said Musa.
The school management told the Nation that it would issue a statement after notifying the deceased persons’ next of kin.
