Most fans know Mac Jones for his arm, his poise and his patience on the sideline. Few know he will skip a seafood dinner before the appetizers arrive. The San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback, 28, used his bye week to chat with teammate George Kittle and Claire Kittle on their podcast, The Kittle Things, and the talk drifted from first dates to dealbreakers. The timing fits a quiet stretch in his life. He is newly single after splitting from Sophie Scott, and his contract is ticking toward free agency.

Mac Jones On Dating After His Sophie Scott Split

Asked about his biggest green flag, Jones did not hesitate. He is "attracted to smart, smart, ladies." Claire Kittle then went looking for dealbreakers, and the answer came just as quickly.

"Just don't go to a seafood spot with me," Jones said.

"Oh, yeah, I forgot you're allergic to everything," George said before Claire added, "Oh, yes."

Jones was having none of it. "I'm not allergic to anything, I just don't like it," he said, which gave George the opening he wanted.

"You're the guy who would eat chicken tenders at a seafood restaurant," Georgie quipped.

"Exactly, I'm like where's the kid's menu at? That's just who I am," Jones admitted.

Mac Jones on what he would do if there were no penalty flags thrown on celebrations: “Probably like jump in the stands and drink a beer with the fans…..Imagine jumping over the wall at the Niners stadium and sitting down and you're just dapping people up and drinking beer, how cool would that be.” Via: @kittlethings

It is a small moment, but it shows a player comfortable laughing at himself. That matters for a quarterback who spent years in the public eye with Scott, his partner since their days at the University of Alabama in 2019. She followed him to Boston when the New England Patriots drafted him in the first round in 2021, and she later supported him in Jacksonville. Neither has said when the relationship ended. Teammate Kyle Juszczuk, for his part, has already called Jones "a ladies man" on Peter Schrager's podcast, so the single life may not be as quiet as the quarterback makes it sound.

Mac Jones And The San Francisco 49ers Quarterback Room Before The Trade Deadline

Jones is not just a good sport. He is a well-paid insurance policy. He started eight games for San Francisco in 2025, completing 69.6% of his passes for 2,151 yards with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions, and that résumé keeps Brock Purdy's backup spot valuable. His two-year, $7 million deal expires after this season, which makes every trade rumor worth watching.

General manager John Lynch is not expected to move him. His reasoning leans on franchise history.

"I think back to [former 49ers coach] Bill Walsh; maybe he was on to something when he had Joe Montana but he also brought Steve Young in here," Lynch said, via NBC Sports Bay Area. "It's a good position to be in, a position of strength, and it provides opportunities in a number of ways, the most important way being that you're well insulated in the event something ever were to happen. And then there also are opportunities you receive calls and then you make decisions accordingly. But we love our situation at quarterback."

The 49ers are 6-1 and rested after a loss that stung. Next up are the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 9, then a trip to face the Dallas Cowboys. If Purdy stays healthy, Jones may only be a spectator. If he does not, the man who hates seafood suddenly runs the whole menu.
