A new report has revealed a major shake-up behind the scenes at Paramount+ that will deeply affect its original series.
Since the streaming service was launched in March 2021, many subscribers have watched movies on Paramount+. While films have played a major role in the service's success, getting to binge original series, such as Lioness, Landman, and Tulsa King, has become one of the reasons that many users pay their monthly fee. Now, one of the people who had authority over the streamer's content is leaving.
After Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery's merger was completed, Casey Bloys joined the media conglomerate as the Co-Chair and Chief Content Officer of Skydance Direct-to-Consumer. In that role, he will be overseeing HBO Max and Paramount+. As Variety reported on October 23, he recently issued an internal memo that revealed that Paramount+'s Executive Vice President of Originals, Jane Wiseman, is exiting her role at the company.
Prior to her exit, Wiseman held authority over the streamer's original series decisions since she took on the job in August 2025. As a result, she had an impact on several of Paramount+'s best shows. According to Variety's report on the executive shake-up, Wiseman had been open to staying on in her role even after her former boss, Cindy Holland, who had been in charge of Paramount+, left the company.
While Bloys' memo made it clear that Wiseman isn't staying at Paramount+ in the long term, it also revealed that her exit will not happen immediately. Instead, Variety's report quoted the internal communication stating that she would stay on long enough to aid the transition process.
Jane, in her partnership with Cindy Holland, has done amazing work at Paramount+. The development slate is incredibly impressive, and Jane has graciously offered to help with the transition. She is an extraordinarily talented executive. I appreciate all her support and wish her all the best.
According to Variety, Wiseman greenlit 30 original series and renewed 16 others during her tenure. While it is unclear if any of the new shows she shepherded will join the pantheon of Paramount+'s best programming, her decisions were undoubtedly impactful. After her impending departure was announced, Wiseman thanked her staff for their hard work in a note that was quoted in Variety's report:
"I’m incredibly proud of this team. It’s been a privilege to be part of it. Together, we’ve greenlit more than 40 new and returning series across scripted, unscripted, kids & family and animation, like Discretion, Fear Not, Laird, Trauma, Ascent, Clueless and The Best Of Us, just to name a few. You championed them early, fought for them against competing bids, and made fast decisions that kept creators confident in us."
From the outside looking in, television executives often get a bad rap as they are mocked for making baffling decisions or ruling by committee. However, there are many stories about some of the greatest series of all time only being produced and given a chance to thrive because an executive championed them.
Question 1 of 3
The fact that Wiseman could have helped make some great television is why her Paramount+ tenure ending is a big deal for users, even if they never knew her name. However, if someone great takes over the role, fantastic content could be produced in the years to come.
