Star Trek: Voyager Is Officially Switching Genres On October 1

There have been plenty of great Star Trek adaptations over the years, but from a personal perspective, there was something quite special about Voyager. Captain Kathryn Janeway remains the most underappreciated of the various ship leaders we've seen so far, while the change in setting made for some really exciting storylines.

As such, it feels like one of the series that has the most staying power, and we see its characters and locations crop up in other adaptations all the time. Now, one of those adaptations is about to bring some elements of Voyager to the fore once again, and there's plenty for players both old and new to jump into.

Star Trek: Voyager - Across The Unknown Gets Lots Of New Content

In case you're yet to play it, Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown is a story-driven survival strategy game from Daedalic Entertainment that really puts the emphasis on player decisions. You get to take control of the iconic starship for yourself, and it remains one of the most faithful games we've seen tied to the series to date.

Recently, the developer shared a post confirming a major update for the game, that adds a whole new mode, as well as another ship and additional characters. The statement reads as follows:

"Star Trek: Voyager - Across the Unknown is getting Q Trials, a free new game mode that lets Q do what he does best: mess with the rules. You could get the idea of Q being a fan of Frostpunk and FTL. Consequently the Q Trials make life in the Delta Quadrant more demanding: Randomized events, changing routes and challenges, but also much more freedom in how you build your crew turn each journey through the Delta Quadrant into a different test. Want to put together an all-Borg crew? Go ahead. Q will probably have opinions. No. He most definitely will have opinions.

"Launching alongside the free update is the Equinox DLC, adding the U.S.S. Equinox as a playable ship for Q Trials, together with Captain Rudolph Ransom, Maxwell Burke, and Noah Lessing. And if U.S.S. Voyager felt a little too comfortable, the U.S.S. Equinox should fix that. It is smaller, has less room, fewer crew, and less warp power. In other words: exactly the kind of ship Q would send you across the Delta Quadrant in."

In even better news, all of that is set to launch tomorrow (October 1), so if you are set to jump in for the first time, this is probably as good a time as any to do so.

Star Trek Isn't Done Yet

Other than that, there is a feature film Star Trek reboot on the way in conjunction with Paramount, as adaptations have certainly slowed in recent years. That is yet to enter full production, though, so if you are waiting in the wings for more news, don't expect too much to emerge too soon.
