Stock index futures were higher ahead of the opening bell Monday as investors looked past last week's AI-driven volatility and positioned for a rebound.
Nasdaq 100 futures (US100:IND) led the advance, jumping +1.10%. S&P 500 futures (SPX) gained +0.49%, while Dow futures (INDU) slipped -0.05%.
Treasury yields showed mixed moves across the curve. The 2-year yield (US2Y) rose to 4.73%, while the 5-year yield (US5Y) ticked up to 4.89%. At the longer end, the 10-year yield (US10Y) slipped to 5.08% and the 30-year yield (US30Y) edged lower to 5.42%.
"39 years ago today we woke up to the origins of what would forever be known as Black Monday, where the Dow fell -22.6% on the day," Deutsche Bank's Jim Reid said. "It's rare the anniversary falls on a Monday so it's a more memorable one today."
"The late US trading session on Friday almost felt people were worried we'd get a repeat today as the S&P fell from flat just before the European close to -1.09% by the US one. However, this morning we are seeing a bounce with S&P and Nasdaq futures making up most of their late Friday losses."
Top gainers in premarket trading included Globe Life (GL) +8.53%, Ingersoll Rand (IR) +8.01%, and Martin Marietta Materials (MLM) +5.51%. Decliners included Mettler-Toledo International (MTD) -9.68%, Garmin (GRMN) -8.65%, and DaVita (DVA) -8.41%.
