Dexter: Resurrection season 2 is bringing more chaos to New York.

The Dexter franchise began in 2004 with the release of Jeff Lindsay's book series Darkly Dreaming Dexter, followed by Showtime's adaptation, released in 2006, with Michael C. Hall bringing the complex character to life. The flagship series ran for eight seasons until 2013, when it ended rather divisively. Eight years later, the character resurfaced in Dexter: New Blood, and now Dexter: Resurrection is bringing new life to the series.

Dexter: Resurrection season 2 has finally premiered, and critics are giving their verdicts on the new season. On Rotten Tomatoes, critics have given it a rating of 83% based on six reviews for season 2. This is significantly lower than season 1, which debuted with a near-perfect 95% rating. However, it's certainly not the lowest of the entire franchise, as it is expected to fluctuate as the episodes begin rolling out worldwide.

Critics stated that Dexter: Resurrection season 2 has some "growing pains, but the series finds its footing fast, and though Dexter might be getting older, there’s still plenty of life left in his Dark Passenger," and "Michael C. Hall is PERFECT as always, but it’s the new challenges of a fascinating midlife crisis that Dexter must navigate that make this next chapter so intriguing. It’s familiar Dexter with a refreshing new perspective, and I’m absolutely here for it."

Question 1 of 3

ScreenRant's Sean Morrison stated, "Dexter: Resurrection season 2 is devilishly delightful and could easily be the best season of Dexter that we've gotten in years." Despite a slightly lower debut for Dexter: Resurrection's second season, it is one of the highest-rated amongst all the spinoffs within the franchise, and can still continue to rise or fall with each new episode. Audiences have yet to share their thoughts, meaning that there is time for the fan-favorite vigilante to break records.

Dexter: Resurrection achieved several record-breaking milestones for both Showtime and the entire franchise when it was first released. The series reached over 3.1 million global cross-platform viewers during its opening weekend, and it became Showtime's most-streamed and most-watched premiere ever. Season 1 also broke more records on IMDb with a historic run of consecutive episodes rated above 9 out of 10.

Dexter: Resurrection season 1 is available to stream on Paramount+, and season 2, episode 1 is available to watch now.
