Some Avengers: Endgame re-release screenings will only have 2 mins of new footage

When the Russo Brothers announced that Avengers: Endgame would be re-released in cinemas this autumn, they promised new footage to "create a bridge from Endgame to Doomsday". But if you were expecting a bunch of new scenes that will shake up the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you'll probably be disappointed.

Despite being described as a "critical companion story" and a "setup" for Doomsday (via Deadline), Avengers: Endgame Encore will only have two minutes of extra footage, compared to the original release.

While the 2019 movie had a runtime of 180m 57s, The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has confirmed that the upcoming re-release will be 183m 3s long.

Meanwhile, it appears that those who will watch the Infinity Vision version of the movie will receive slightly more footage than the regular screening, as the BBFC has listed a second runtime of 186m 14s.

However, it's unclear if the extra clips will add to the Doomsday "bridge" or may just be a behind-the-scenes featurette.

Speaking at CineEurope in Barcelona, Disney previously revealed that the re-release will feature a custom introduction, additional new footage, plus a special post-credit scene exclusive to Infinity Vision and Imax screenings.

Though exact details remain under wraps for now, the wait is almost over, as Endgame Encore will arrive on the big screens next week (25 September).

Meanwhile, the wait for Doomsday is also drawing to a close, with the movie set to debut in December. Both Chris Evans (Captain America) and Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man) will be returning to the MCU after seven years - though the latter will be playing villain Doctor Doom.

"Universes collide and the Multiverse Saga begins its final chapter in Marvel Studios' Avengers: Doomsday. Beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and ultimately face an existential threat unlike anything they've ever encountered," the synopsis reads.

"This epic film will lay the foundation for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. See it in Infinity Vision, the way it's meant to be seen, on bigger, brighter and more immersive screens."

Avengers: Endgame is re-released in cinemas on 25 September, while Avengers: Doomsday is out in cinemas on 18 December.
