Sources: Bagent has concussion, leaving Bears' QB situation muddled

Chicago Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent is dealing with a concussion and is in the NFL's concussion protocol, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport on Tuesday.

With Caleb Williams' availability for next Monday night's game against the Philadelphia Eagles uncertain due to a hamstring injury, third-string quarterback Case Keenum could be in line to start. Keenum has not appeared in a regular-season NFL game since 2023.

Bagent came in at quarterback in Chicago's 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday after Williams left with his injury.

It is unclear when Bagent suffered the concussion, but he was sacked on the final play of Sunday's game when the Vikings' Dallas Turner bulldozed through tight end Colston Loveland, who was singled up with the outside linebacker.

Bagent, who has been the Bears' backup quarterback since signing with the team in 2023 as an undrafted free agent, finished Sunday's game 5 of 9 passing for 54 yards in Sunday's game.

Coach Ben Johnson said Monday that Williams is considered week-to-week with his right hamstring injury but he is not yet ruling him out for the game against the Eagles even though he does not expect the quarterback to practice this week.

"He's right now working through every avenue that he's got available to get back on track here. We'll see what that looks like. Here's what I know. This guy's a little bit different than the average human being. I said that last night, I'll double down on that. He gets back -- he has in the past -- a lot faster than what people can anticipate and so I'm not putting a timeline on this. We're going to say week-to-week. He's going to attack this with everything that he knows," Johnson said of Williams.

Williams underwent an MRI on Monday morning to assess the severity of his hamstring injury. Johnson said the news the Bears received on Williams' injury was "somewhat encouraging."
