While it will be partly cloudy, cold to warm across the country, the South African Weather Service has issued warnings for severe thunderstorms and disruptive rain in parts of the Northern Cape and Western Cape, with heavy downpours in some parts of the Eastern Cape.

Impact-based warnings

Yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, hail, excessive lightning, and strong winds. This may lead to localised flooding of settlements, roads, and bridges in the eastern parts of the central and eastern Northern Cape, as well as the Beaufort West Municipality in the Western Cape.

There’s also a Yellow level 2 warning for disruptive rain with heavy downpours, causing localised flooding of settlements, roads, and bridges in the western parts of the Eastern Cape, persisting into Sunday.

In the SAWS’s colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that a higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.

The SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-related impacts. Levels 2 and 6 are high, level 5 is medium, and levels 4 and 8 are low.
