Anwar arrives at Istana Negeri Sembilan for audience with Tuanku Muhriz amid state exco shake-up

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 — A vehicle believed to be carrying Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived at the Negeri Sembilan Palace in Changkat Persekutuan here at about 6pm.

Anwar is expected to have an audience with the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, following developments concerning the status of members of the State Executive Council (MMKN).

Also expected to have an audience are Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim.

Members of the media began gathering outside the Negeri Sembilan Palace from about 3pm to follow developments related to the issue.

According to a statement by Negeri Sembilan Palace Comptroller Datuk Azizi Mohamad Ali last night, Tuanku Muhriz revoked the appointments of the MMKN members with immediate effect after finding that all the Exco members concerned had breached their oaths of office.

Azizi said that under Article XXXVIII(5) of the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959, a member of the MMKN holds office for as long as he or she has the pleasure of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar.

The members concerned each took their oaths and signed pledges of loyalty on August 7 before being appointed to the Negeri Sembilan MMKN.

Following the revocation, the Menteri Besar must present a new list of candidates for the State Executive Council for Tuanku Muhriz’s consideration and consent in accordance with Article XXXVIII(2) of the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959. — Bernama
