Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk emphasized the importance of the “Egypt 2026 Forum” in showcasing the Egyptian state’s vision for the next three years, noting that the forum witnesses wide participation from various segments of society, political parties and decision-makers.

In a statement on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Farouk stated that the forum reflects the Egyptian state’s keenness on societal participation and opening spaces between the government, the people, experts and specialists regarding public policies, national projects and development programs implemented over past years and their impact on improving citizens’ lives.

He added that the file of food security and rural development comes at the forefront of the Egyptian state’s priorities, contributing to turning challenges into promising opportunities.

He pointed out that the Egyptian state has adopted an integrated reform and executive path that balances giant horizontal expansion for land reclamation with vertical expansion based on scientific research and digital transformation, aiming to maximize added value, achieve self-sufficiency, narrow the import gap and provide safe food for citizens at affordable prices.

Farouk explained that the agricultural sector witnessed a radical transformation driven by the state’s vision towards horizontal land reclamation and the rational management of water resources.

The state implemented a package of the largest land reclamation projects in its history, which increased the agricultural area and doubled production. These include the New Delta project with an area of 2.2 million feddans, the Toshka project with an area of 1.1 million feddans, the North and Central Sinai Development project covering about 456,000 feddans, the New Egyptian Rural Development project spanning 1.5 million feddans, and projects in South Upper Egypt and the New Valley covering 650,000 feddans, he said.

Farouk noted that the state has taken numerous proactive measures to support urban development, particularly the agricultural sector, to secure the food and agricultural product needs of the great people of Egypt during periods when many countries—including developed ones—failed to achieve this goal and some even imposed restrictive policies on their agricultural exports.

He stressed that at a time when the world was losing millions of hectares annually due to desertification, soil degradation, drought and unfavorable climate change, the Egyptian state managed to add more agricultural land through reclaiming over 3.5 million feddans of desert.
