Eco Discovery 2026 promotes Hulu Selangor's heritage, ecotourism

KUALA LUMPUR: The Hulu Selangor Explorace: Eco Discovery 2026, held on Oct 10, drew an encouraging response from participants by focusing on ecotourism, environmental sustainability and social responsibility.
Organised by the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) in collaboration with Excapt Event, the event marked the council's fifth anniversary as a municipality and aimed to showcase the district's heritage and tourist attractions.
MPHS president Julaihah Jamaludin said the positive response to the competition, held in Kuala Kubu Bharu, indicated strong public interest in exploring the district's unique history, heritage and natural beauty.
"This also reflects growing interest in visiting Hulu Selangor to discover its unique history, heritage, natural beauty and other attractions," she said in a statement today.
Julaihah said the race's appeal was evident from the participation of 30 teams and continued public demand to take part even after the registration quota had been reached.
She said Kuala Kubu Bharu was chosen for its historic character and Garden City urban planning concept.
"Participants had the opportunity to discover Kuala Kubu Bharu not just as a town, but as a destination rich in history, heritage and its distinct identity," she said.
Julaihah said the explorace challenged participants' agility and teamwork, showcased Kuala Kubu Bharu's history and identity, and promoted environmental sustainability by collecting used cooking oil and electrical and electronic waste (e-waste).
She said participants collected 230kg of used cooking oil and 37 e-waste items weighing a total of 14.65kg through the activities.
As part of the programme's corporate social responsibility initiative, participants also contributed to Pertubuhan Kebajikan Ar Rahmaniah and Asrama Baitul Rahmaniah Bairah, Julaihah said.
"MPHS hopes programmes like this will encourage the public to appreciate local heritage, adopt environmentally friendly lifestyles and support community initiatives to create a more sustainable environment and a thriving community," she added.
