PM Modi has failed ‘abysmally’ on Manipur, says Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge

Amid fresh killings in Manipur, Congress Wednesday said BJP has only been interested in power machinations in the state and has failed to rein in violence.Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi what has happened to the Peace Committee which was announced by home minister Amit Shah in June 2023 and what action has been taken on the Supreme Court-appointed Justice Gita Mittal Committee’s recommendations. He also asked what concrete measures have been taken to restore peace, protect citizens and address the continuing security challenges in the sensitive border state.“BJP’s political machinations, from imposing President’s Rule to replacing the CM and reinstalling its own govt, have yielded no peace. PM Modi, who did not even set foot in Manipur for nearly 29 months after violence erupted, has abysmally failed on his so-called assurance in Parliament,” the Congress president said. “As a strategically important border state, its security and stability cannot be held hostage to the BJP’s political expediency,” Kharge added.
