Why is Brighton wearing a special blue jersey vs Arsenal in Premier League?

Brighton and Hove Albion started its Premier League match against Arsenal wearing a kit different that its conventional home jersey of blue-and-white stripes.

While several fans were left confused about the reason, the club later revealed that the blue jersey was a special edition kit to celebrate 125 years since the club was formed.

“As the teams take to the field, supporters will welcome the players with individual flags located on every home seat, a blue-and-white tifo mosaic in the East Stand, an expanded pyrotechnics display, and a special 125 centre-circle flag,” read the team’s statement about the matchday plans.

“To mark the occasion, players will wear the commemorative 125 anniversary kit comprising a classic blue shirt and cream shorts modelled on the original 1901 strip, which will be the only time the kit is worn in competitive action. The match will also feature specially designed white corner flags bearing the 125 anniversary crest.”

“At half-time, the stadium will host exclusive pitch-side content and legend interviews featuring Bobby Zamora and Jack Hinshelwood, as well as a feature with chairman Tony Bloom,” the club added.

Brighton and Hove Albion is coming into the match after beating Manchester United 3-2 in the League Cup and is currently fifth in the Premier League standings.
