Shubman Gill did not bat for Punjab in the second innings chase against Chhattisgarh during the Ranji Trophy round two match at the New PCA stadium in New Chandigarh on Wednesday.
Gill, who usually bats at No.4 in the red-ball format, didn’t come out to bat when Punjab lost its second wicket in pursuit of 86 runs. Prabhsimran Singh batted at that position.
And when Punjab lost another wicket, Salil Arora came out to bat.
The India Test captain wasn’t on the field throughout the day when Punjab was fielding and as per rules, Gill won’t be allowed to bat till he has completed the time he was away off the field.
Gill hasn’t had much of an impact turning up for his state in this game. In the first innings, he was cleaned up by Ajay Mandal after scoring just 1 off 5 balls.
Gill is expected to leave for New Zealand in the coming day as India begins its six-week long tour. He is part of the ODI and Test squads.
