Jayden Adams honoured at 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony

The late Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder Jayden Adams was honoured during the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony on Monday night.
Adams was remembered during a special tribute to football figures who died this year, alongside legendary players Kevin Keegan and Franco Baresi.
The 25-year-old midfielder died in July 2026, just weeks after representing South Africa at the FIFA World Cup. He played a significant role in helping Bafana Bafana reach the last 16 of the tournament.
Jayden Adams made his Bafana Bafana debut in 2022 and went on to earn 13 caps, scoring two goals for the national team.
Following his reported death, a moment of silence was also held during the World Cup semi-final between Argentina and England.
His inclusion in the Ballon d’Or tribute was a recognition of his contribution to South African football and his time representing the national team on the international stage.
Jayden Adams had an impact on South African football
Having started his career with Stellenbosch, Adams became one of the best midfielders in the PSL and it was no surprise that Mamelodi Sundowns came for him in 2025.
He helped the Brazilians win the CAF Champions League for the second time and also forced his way back into the Bafana team.
