‘It is a dream come true’: Moses Simon celebrates 100th Super Eagles appearance

Super Eagles winger Moses Simon has described reaching 100 appearances for Nigeria as a “great privilege” and a dream come true after achieving the milestone in the Super Eagles’ 2-1 victory over Madagascar in Uyo on Friday evening.

The Paris FC winger came off the bench in the second half to make his landmark appearance, replacing former Sevilla striker Akor Adams at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

Simon immediately brought his trademark pace, directness and skill to the game, taking on Madagascar defenders and creating opportunities for Nigeria as the Super Eagles secured victory in their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Simon reflected on the significance of reaching the century mark and expressed his appreciation to the coaches who have trusted him with opportunities to represent Nigeria throughout his international career.

“Thanks to the coach for the opportunity. Thanks to every coach that gave me the opportunity,” Simon told reporters.

The 31-year-old admitted that reaching 100 appearances was something he never imagined when he first began his international career, making the achievement even more meaningful.

“Of course, this gives me joy and it is a great privilege to play for the Super Eagles,” he added.

For Simon, however, the milestone is not the end of his international journey.

The Paris FC star reaffirmed his commitment to the national team, promising to continue giving everything whenever he receives another call-up.

“It is a dream come true. I never believed I would play 100 games but I believe one thing, whenever I am called up, I will be there to give one hundred per cent,” Simon concluded.

Simon’s appearance against Madagascar also placed him in an exclusive group of Nigerian footballers who have reached the 100-cap mark for the Super Eagles.

He now joins Joseph Yobo, Vincent Enyeama, Ahmed Musa and Alex Iwobi as players who have made at least 100 appearances for Nigeria.

Having celebrated a landmark moment in Uyo, Simon will now turn his attention back to the Super Eagles’ qualifying campaign as Nigeria prepares for its next Group L fixture against Guinea-Bissau on 29 September.
