Mac Allister: Iraola Has Fixed Liverpool Issue
Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has credited manager Andoni Iraola with successfully resolving key underlying problems within the squad following a smooth start to his tenure.
From his first 11 matches in charge across all competitions, Iraola has registered seven wins, three draws, and just one defeat. The latest triumph came in a thrilling 4-3 Champions League comeback victory at home against Villarreal.

Mac Allister starred on the night with two goals after Iraola deployed him in a more advanced midfield role.
Speaking after the match, the Argentina international admitted that the atmosphere and collective mindset around the club have shifted dramatically for the better.
“Last year was a really difficult year for all of us. It’s clear I was not at my best level—and I’m the first one to say that—I have no problem,” Mac Allister said.

“Something wasn’t right in the group, and this manager changed it. That’s really important. The way we play is quite different—I don’t like to compare, but I feel good right now, and that’s what I enjoy.”
Iraola accepted Liverpool’s offer to replace Arne Slot back in June, after the Dutch coach led the Reds to the Premier League title in his debut 2024/25 season, but then struggled to replicate that level in 2025/26.
