Why this new 6-part psychological thriller will be a must-watch for fans of twisty crime dramas

Translate

If you're looking for a twisty crime drama to binge, then Netflix is normally the place to go. And next month will be no different, with a brand-new psychological thriller series set to hit the streamer in the coming weeks.

The Trap is a German-language series based on Melanie Raabe's 2017 novel of the same name, with the crime drama coming from the creators of Dear Child. The plot follows a "complex web of deception and truth", all revolving around a murder.

But with production already completed ahead of its premiere next month, we know you want to learn more about this eagerly-awaited series. So, without further ado, here's everything you need to know about The Trap!

What is The Trap about?

Netflix

The crime drama centres on Lisa Konrad, a renowned author who witnessed the murder of her sister Anna. Since then, she has spent the best part of a decade isolated in her own house, but she is soon compelled to go back into the world.

While watching television, she spots the figure she suspects to have committed the murder, and devises a plan to bring them to justice. Lisa plans to use herself as bait, but will the potential killer fall into her trap?

Raabe's novel was generally praised by readers, as it has a solid rating of 3.46/5 on GoodReads. In a four-star review, one user wrote: "The author gets inside the character's heads – exactly what I like – more psychological suspense than a thriller."

"The story is wildly imaginative and I would warn you to toss all pretence of plausibility out the window, and just enjoy the cat-and-mouse game because it was truly quite enjoyable and entertaining," opined another reader.

A third user was also full of praise, writing: "This is a novel full of twists and suspense. The question of whether Linda is reliable is raised. The entire story is structured and driven by the character of Linda. It is a compelling story but not always easy to read."
