Russell Brand’s Lawyer Rounds On Journalist Who Exposed Brand’s Behavior

Translate

After Russell Brand was found guilty on one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault this afternoon, his lawyer laid into a journalist who helped expose Brand.

Numerous publications reported that Ian Winter KC launched a tirade at Sunday Times journalist Rosamund Urwin outside Southwark Crown Court.

Winter was reported to have said to Urwin, “I hope you’re pleased with yourself.” She was heard replying, “I’m pleased justice has been done” and Winter is reported to have snapped back, “Well it wasn’t. You f**ked it.”

Urwin was one of the lead journalists who broke allegations about Brand as part of a Times, Sunday Times and Channel 4 joint investigation in 2023.

During his closing arguments last week, Winter said the documentary had “poisoned the well of justice deliberately” and “fundamentally corrupted” Brand’s accusers. The prosecution, on the other hand, argued that the doc was the catalyst for six women to come forward but that none of the women knew each other and the doc was no “magic force” that caused them to “recast their memories.”

Brand was earlier found guilty on one count of rape and three of sexual assault. Brand was found not guilty on two other counts of rape and one of attempted indecent assault, which was reduced from indecent assault during the trial. Brand firmly denied all the charges, based on allegations made by six women.

Deadline has reached out to Winter’s chamber Cloth Fair Chambers for comment.
