The Sultan Idris Shah Hospital Heart Centre in Serdang, Selangor, handled 69 cardiology intervention cases in a single day on Friday, highlighting its capacity in providing specialised heart care.

The health ministry said 40 of the cases were elective procedures, while the remaining 29 were emergency cases, including four primary percutaneous coronary intervention procedures requiring immediate action to save heart attack patients.

The centre accounted for 45% of the total cardiac intervention cases handled by all 10 health ministry cardiac centres, it said in a post on X yesterday.

“The achievement reflects the strong commitment, efficiency and teamwork of the HSIS cardiology team in ensuring patients receive high-quality heart care that is delivered quickly, safely and effectively,” it said.

The centre performed 44 angiogram procedures to examine heart blood vessels, and 39 PCI procedures to open blocked arteries using balloons and stents.

It also managed 13 complex coronary cases using intravascular ultrasound technology, which allows more precise and safer treatment.
