J Balvin & Valentina Ferrer Split, ‘Have Decided to Take Separate Paths’ After Nearly 10 Years Together

J Balvin and Valentina Ferrer have ended their nearly decade-long relationship. The Argentine model confirmed the news on Wednesday (Sept. 16), stating that their priority will be their son.

“After sharing so many years and important moments together, José and I have decided to take separate paths,” Ferrer wrote in a statement shared on her Instagram Stories. “This has been a decision made with love, respect and a desire to do what’s best for our family. Our priority will continue to be supporting Rio with all our love.”

“We are navigating this process calmly and deeply appreciate the understanding and respect shown for this deeply personal time in our lives,” the 32-year-old former beauty queen added.

Balvin, 41, has not yet spoken out on the breakup. Billboard has reached out to his representatives for comment.

The singer of “Mi Gente” and “Ginza” met the model during the filming of his music video “Sigo Extrañándote,” in which she played his wife. A year later, they made their debut as a couple during New York Fashion Week. In June 2021, they welcomed their son, Rio. They never married.

Balvin and Ferrer attended the Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles together earlier this year. They were also photographed in February in San Francisco at the Fanatics Super Bowl Party at Pier 48. One of Ferrer’s last posts featuring Balvin is from July 11, published on Instagram, in which she expresses her pride in the artist’s participation in the World Cup opening ceremony in Mexico City. “The fun has begun,” she wrote. “Ready for the World Cup and proud of my Josecito.”
