Daemons of the Shadow Realm ‒ Episode 23
While it has not yet been directly stated, what's implied here is that Tokugawa's side won the war because he had Higashi Village and a pair of the twins on his side. The defeated Daemon wielders in Ishida's camp—the secretive Nishi Village—then went into hiding and planned their revenge. The issue I have is that any revenge has been in the works for over 400 years. No human even tangentially related to that war—much less anyone who experienced it—has been around for centuries. In other words, the fight would be completely meaningless.
To add some Western context to highlight the absurdity, this is a lot like discovering that there's a secret war happening in England right now behind the scenes because the descendants of the serfs of the House of York have been plotting for centuries to get revenge on the descendants of the serfs of the House of Tudor for what happened in the War of the Roses. We are so disconnected from that time and the politics of that era; the very idea seems insane.
Moreover, from what we have seen in the series so far, neither Higashi Village nor Kagemori has much real power in the modern world. Oh sure, they are fighting a gang war in the back alleys of Tokyo and obviously have a lot of money, but that's about it. We've seen nothing to suggest there is anything like an organized community of Daemon users under one country-wide or world-wide organization.
To put this another way, based outside of Tokyo, Nishi Village looks pretty much free to do whatever they want—especially with the Kagemori's and Higashi Village at each other's throats. There's no real reason for them to get involved with anything that's going on—they don't really need the power of the twins, as there's no one trying to stop them anyway. And even if they did do something that caused the Kagemori's to send Asa after them, we encounter the Superman problem: no matter how strong he is, he can only be in one place at a time. I don't see the logic behind Nishi Village exposing themselves as they have since the attack on the Kagemori Mansion.
Now, as for the rest of the episode, it's fine. It's just tying up loose ends and doling out a bit of light comedy after all the tension and action of the past few episodes. I'm a bit worried the season will trickle to a close with no real climax to speak of. But that's just how things sometimes go when adapting manga.
