NBC has given a full vote of confidence to its first-year series Line of Fire.

The network has ordered five additional episodes of the drama, bringing Line of Fire’s total to a full-by-2026-standards season order of 18. The extension comes a couple weeks after NBC asked for additional scripts for the show, which centers on a family of federal law enforcement officers.

Line of Fire becomes the first show in this season’s crop of new series to have its order extended (though it’s worth noting that CBS gave a 20-episode order to Cupertino out of the gate).

Created by Joshua Safran and starring Peter Krause and Hope Davis, Line of Fire has posted solid ratings numbers so far. The Sept. 21 series premiere has grown to 14 million cross-platform viewers (including repeats on NBC) in the month since it aired. After seven days of linear viewing (i.e., before streaming is added in), the show’s first three episodes averaged about 5.06 million viewers — a 70 percent increase over their same-day average of 2.98 million.

The show has also improved its 10 p.m. Monday timeslot considerably over Brilliant Minds last season, in both linear and cross-platform ratings.

Line of Fire centers on the Hollingsworth family, whose members work in various branches of federal law enforcement and who are seemingly being targeted by an assassin. In addition to Krause and Davis, the cast includes Kat Cunning, Tommy O’Brien, Taylor Bloom, and Charlie Barnett. Antoinette Crow-Legacy, Sam Waterston, Savannah Lee Smith, Chris Chalk and Campbell Scott have recurring or guest roles.

Universal Television produces Line of Fire. Safran (Gossip Girl, Quantico) executive produces with Jenna Bush Hager and Ben Spector.
