The Department of Social Welfare and Developmen—t (DSWD) said on Tuesday it distributed 220 food packs on Saturday to evacuees in four evacuation centers in Tabaco City, Albay following Mayon Volcano's eruption.

In a press release, the DSWD said the distribution was led by its Field Office 5 (Bicol Region).

“Makakatulong ang mga food packs para matugunan ang kanilang pagkain habang hinihintay na maging ligtas ang kanilang pagbabalik sa kani-kanilang tahanan,” the DSWD said.

(The food packs will help address their food needs while they wait for clearance to safely return to their respective homes.)

Among the beneficiaries were internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Barangays Magapo, Buang, Mariroc (Nagsipit), Oson and Buhian.

Water supply concerns

Meanwhile, several evacuees in Barangay Buang expressed concern over the irregular water supply in their area, raising fears about its impact on their health and hygiene.

In a report on GMA's Balitanghali, evacuees said they had been strictly rationing their water use because of the unstable supply.

They appealed to local authorities to install a rainwater catchment system to provide water for toilets and other daily needs.

On Friday, Mayon Volcano had a moderately explosive eruption, prompting the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) to raise its alert status to Level 3.

Earlier Tuesday, PHIVOLCS reported that the volcano began emitting ash anew at 8:22 a.m.

Since the weekend, more than 400 families have evacuated due to Mayon's continuing volcanic activity. — MCG, GMA News
