Govt targets 2,121 home renovations in Surakarta, Padang

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) is targeting the revitalization of 2,121 uninhabitable homes in Surakarta, Central Java, and Padang, West Sumatra, through Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance (BSPS) program.

Maruarar Sirait known as Ara, the minister, noted in a statement received here on Thursday the allocation comprises 691 homes in Surakarta and 1,430 homes in Padang.

"I believe there has never been a house revitalization scheme of this scale in Surakarta and Padang. This is the largest in the history of both cities, right? There was nothing like this before; this is second to none," Ara said.

The scale of the program reflects President Prabowo Subianto's commitment to improving housing conditions for residents in the two cities, he said.

He also encouraged the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), contractors, building material suppliers, and housing developers to take advantage of the People's Business Credit (KUR) scheme for the housing sector.

Ara explained the home revitalization program forms part of the government's broader agenda to build and renovate around three million homes nationwide.

He stressed the need to complement the program with community empowerment measures, including support for businesses and assistance with land certification.

The program must be implemented in a manner that ensures assistance reaches those genuinely in need of government support, Ara said.
