Emmerdale’s Robert Sugden poaches Marlon Dingle and Mary Goskirk from the Woolpack next week, in a move which makes Charity livid!

Determined to launch his new restaurant, Robert butters up the chefs with an offer they can’t refuse. But will Charity retaliate against her new business rival?

"Ambitious Robert wants his eatery to take the number one spot in the village," teases our Emmerdale insider. "He seduces Marlon by offering him complete free reign, creative freedom and a vision to whet the chef’s appetite."

After acquiring the failed Hide restaurant from Gabby, Robert’s poker win has allowed him to bring to life his vision for a ‘field to fork’ family restaurant. And, eager to make a great success of his newly acquired business, Robert’s now on the hunt for staff.

With Marlon’s years of experience, Robert strokes his ego, desperate to entice him on board as head chef. He gives Marlon some serious food for thought, and it’s no wonder he’s tempted. However, after the guilt eats away at Marlon, he admits to Charity that Robert has head-hunted him!

"Despite Charity’s efforts to remind Marlon where his family loyalties lie, Robert sells Marlon a dream and the two get to work, excitedly brainstorming ideas for the new menu," explains our source.

"Robert will do anything to snap up Marlon – no matter what the cost – so Marlon lays out his terms and conditions, including a hefty salary. But when Aaron learns what figure Marlon’s asking for, he’s appalled that Robert has agreed to it!"

Undeterred by Marlon’s outrageous demands or Aaron’s fear that Marlon is taking advantage of his desperation, Robert forges ahead. It’s the end of an era as Marlon and Mary sheepishly tell Charity they’re handing in their notice and going to work for Robert from now on!

Stung by the betrayal, Charity turns on guilty Marlon and Mary in a public showdown, accusing her cousin of stabbing his own family in the back to work for the competition. Furious, she also throws Robert and Aaron out of the pub for good measure.

Is this the last Robert has heard of the matter? Or will Charity cook up a way to make him pay for stealing Marlon and Mary? And what’s more, who’ll be whipping up the pub lasagne in the meantime?

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
