Ghosts movie The Possession of Button House drops new trailer with shock villain twist

Ghosts: The Possession of Button House has released its first full-length trailer, which unveils surprising plot details for the much-anticipated sitcom sequel film.

The new footage expands upon an earlier teaser, revealing what happens after a group of teenagers break into Button House, after learning of its haunted reputation.

Breaking out a Ouija board, they attempt to make contact with any lingering spirits, not realising quite how many are in their midst.

The big twist is a newfound ability of Julian (Simon Farnaby) to possess living humans, granting him the ability to – at long last – leave the grounds of Button House.

However, the action brings out his villainous side, as the teenager whose body Julian steals is left incorporeal on the ghosts' astral plane – and at risk of fading away forever.

So begins a race against time, as Alison (Charlotte Ritchie), Mike (Kiell Smith-Bynoe) and their former Button House mates try to compel Julian to relinquish his mortal form.

Ghosts: The Possession of Button House picks up after the main events of season 5 (except for the finale's fleeting flash-forward), with Alison and Mike raising their infant daughter, Mia, in a more conventional family home.

They couldn't be more shocked when a young man claiming to be the late Julian Fawcett MP – with the voice and mannerisms to match – turns up on their doorstep.

Farnaby's fellow Ghosts co-creators Mathew Baynton (Thomas), Martha Howe-Douglas (Lady Button), Jim Howick (Pat), Laurence Rickard (Robin/Humphrey) and Ben Willbond (The Captain) also reprise their roles, in addition to regular co-star Lolly Adefope (Kitty).

Ghosts: The Possession of Button House is coming to UK cinemas on Friday 23 October 2026.
