‘How was my funeral?’- SA man schedules Facebook posts after suicide

A Limpopo man is trending on Facebook after he scheduled posts to go live after he ended his life via suicide.

Rapea Nditsheni, a 45-year-old graphic designer, reportedly suffered from mental health issues.

His death comes six months after TV and theatre star Ian von Memerty took his own life via suicide, which he labelled “self-deliverance”.

On social media, the actions of Limpopo man Rapea Nditsheni have gained widespread attention.

Nditsheni, who owned his own graphic design company, ended his life last month after suffering from mental health issues. 

A few days after his death, a scheduled Facebook post read: “I’m so sorry, friends and family, for leaving you all like this.  If you are wondering why I did what I did to myself, I have been suffering for so long with mental issues, the day it happened. I just woke up and decided I gotta go. I’m exhausted.

He added: “I had a great time with you guys – lots of love, and appreciation”.

He was laid to rest last Friday in a livestream video posted on YouTube.

Fast forward to this week, and another scheduled Facebook post popped up on Nditsheni’s timeline. Despite being dead and buried, the grey-bearded man “checked in” on his followers

He cheekily said, “Let me know how my funeral went – I’ll read the comments”.

In the video post, he sarcastically said that he was missing his favourite beer – Carling Black Label.

“It’s darkness [here]. Eish, why did I leave?” he jokingly asked.

On social media, South Africans were both shocked and amused by the man’s actions. 

LEGAL BID TO DECRIMINALISE EUTHANASIA 

Rapea Nditsheni’s bizarre Facebook posts came months after Ian von Memerty took his own life, and scheduled his own posts, after alerting the public to his concerns about living in poor health and with limited cash and resources.

It also comes amid Dignity South Africa’s legal bid to decriminalise and legalise medically-assisted euthanasia in South Africa.

The NPO approached the North Gauteng High Court in April, claiming that the bid protects the rights enshrined in the Constitution. In July, the Department of Health formally opposed the application. The case continues through the High Court process, with potential escalation to the Constitutional Court.
