'Mandaadi' vs 'Sardar 2' BO day 7: Soori's film leads strong

The first week has brought a clear difference in the box office journey of ‘Mandaadi’ and ‘Sardar 2.’ Both Tamil films opened in theatres on September 10 and have been competing for audience attention across Tamil and Telugu markets.

While Soori’s ‘Mandaadi’ has maintained stronger momentum through its opening week, Karthi’s ‘Sardar 2’ has seen a slower run. The two films also belong to different genres, with ‘Mandaadi’ built around a coastal world and boat racing, while ‘Sardar 2’ continues the action franchise led by Karthi.

‘Mandaadi’ crosses Rs 54 crore India net

According to trade estimates by Sacnilk, ‘Mandaadi’ collected Rs 3.50 crore India net on Day 7 from 3,633 shows. The film’s total India net collection has now reached Rs 54.05 crore, while its India gross stands at Rs 63.23 crore.

The Soori starrer also added Rs 1.25 crore from overseas markets on Thursday, taking its overseas gross total to Rs 11.90 crore. Its worldwide gross collection has now reached Rs 75.13 crore.

The Tamil version contributed Rs 2.80 crore from 2,525 shows, recording 24.1 per cent occupancy, while the Telugu version added Rs 70 lakh from 1,108 shows at 21 per cent occupancy.

‘Sardar 2’ worldwide total stands near Rs 21.64 crore

‘Sardar 2,’ meanwhile, recorded Rs 66 lakh India net on Day 7 from 2,277 shows.

The Karthi-led sequel has collected Rs 14.51 crore in India net so far, with its India gross reaching Rs 16.99 crore. The film’s overseas gross remains at Rs 4.65 crore, taking its worldwide gross collection to Rs 21.64 crore. On Day 7, the Tamil version earned Rs 42 lakh from 1,434 shows with 14 per cent occupancy. The Telugu version contributed Rs 24 lakh from 843 shows, also recording 14 per cent occupancy.

The latest figures show the difference between the two films’ first-week totals.

With the end of Day 7, ‘Mandaadi’ has built a substantially larger theatrical tally than ‘Sardar 2.’ The Soori film has crossed Rs 54 crore in India net and Rs 75 crore worldwide gross, while the Karthi starrer has crossed Rs 14 crore India net and Rs 21 crore worldwide gross. ‘Mandaadi’ is directed by Mathimaran, with Mahima Nambiar and Sathyaraj among the key cast members, while ‘Sardar 2’ features Karthi in the lead and continues the franchise created by PS Mithran.
