Two people riding a habal-habal (motorcycle taxi) died after being hit and crushed by an overturned dump truck in Tanjay, Negros Oriental.

In a report by GTV News "Balitanghali" on Monday, a police investigation revealed that the truck driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a mini dump truck traveling ahead of it.

Due to the force of the collision, the mini dump truck accelerated and struck an oncoming motorcycle taxi.

Aside from the two fatalities, nine passengers aboard the truck were also injured.

Authorities were still trying to obtain a statement from the Tanjay local government, which owns both trucks. The vehicles were reportedly being used to transport local government employees.

The drivers of the two trucks have been taken into police custody. —RF, GMA News
