Another Midfielder Drops Out Of Super Eagles Squad For AFCON Qualifiers

The senior national team of Nigeria have suffered a setback ahead of their opening game in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers later this month, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Nigeria will be involved in AFCON 2027 qualifiers opening their campaign at home against Madagascar on the 25th, before travelling to keep a date with Guinea-Bissau in Morocco four days later.

Ahead of the game head coach Eric Chelle is sweating on the fitness of two midfielders in Frank Onyeka, who suffered a suspected broken arm against Brighton last weekend in the English Premier League.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru is back in training, but isn’t match fit yet to be considered for action after spending two weeks on the sidelines. Chelle has another fresh concerns in the midfield.

Alhassan Yusuf who was the star of the summer Unity Cup tournament was widely expected to play a leading role in both games, but his team New England Revolution just announced that he is set for a spell on the sidelines.

“Forward Jack Harrison and midfielder Alhassan Yusuf are each expected to miss at least six weeks of MLS action while rehabilitating injuries sustained during our 2-1 win at New York City FC last Wednesday, September 9. Harrison suffered a proximal quad injury, while Yusuf is out with a hamstring strain”, a statement from the club reads.
