Sarah Mtalii reveals qualities she wants in a future partner

Businesswoman Sarah Mtalii has opened up about the qualities she would want in a future partner, months after her divorce from Simon Kabu was reported as final.

Speaking during an interview on Massawe Japanni’s mid-morning show on Radio Jambo, Mtalii described her ideal man while maintaining that she is not actively searching for a relationship.

Sarah’s ideal partner

In the relaxed and playful conversation, Mtalii said she would be attracted to a Black American man who is tall, dark and handsome.

However, she emphasised that physical appearance would not be the most important factor for her. Kindness, she said, matters more.

“I love them. I have a friend who is a Black American, a doctor, and he’s very kind-hearted.”

Mtalii explained that her preference had partly been shaped by a real-life example shared by a friend, although she stressed that she was not currently looking for love.

Memories matter more than money

Beyond physical appearance or financial success, Mtalii said she wants a partner who knows how to enjoy life and create meaningful memories.

She described herself as someone who likes to “eat life with a big spoon” and said she would prefer a man who values experiences rather than focusing solely on accumulating wealth.

“They don’t know how to create memories. So for me, I want such kind of a person.”

For Mtalii, ambition and financial success mean little if someone is unable to enjoy the fruits of their work and share meaningful experiences with their partner.

She also highlighted loyalty and honesty as important qualities, describing herself as “the most honest, loyal person you can ever meet” while saying she remains focused on her personal goals.

Mtalii clarifies relationship with male friend

The businesswoman also addressed speculation surrounding a male friend she has frequently been seen with in public.

Mtalii dismissed suggestions that the two are romantically involved, describing him instead as one of her closest friends.

“He’s my best friend. One of those friends when I’m around with, I feel peaceful. I feel so good, but not in that way that people imagine.”

She said the two are comfortable travelling together and can even stay in separate rooms, insisting that their relationship is purely platonic.

According to Mtalii, her friend also serves as an adviser and therapist because he understands her personality and knows her well.

Life after divorce

Mtalii and Simon Kabu co-founded Bonfire Adventures, which grew into one of Kenya’s prominent travel companies.

Their marriage lasted about a decade before their divorce was finalised in 2026. Kabu announced on February 18 that the divorce was complete, while Mtalii had previously spoken about the emotional difficulty of ending a marriage.

Despite their separation, the two continue to be involved in Bonfire Adventures as they navigate their personal and professional relationship.
