AI Sci-Fi Series ‘Kira’ Heads To MIPCOM For Ex Machina & K5, First Look Images

EXCLUSIVE: AI-oriented production company Ex Machina, which has ambitious features in the works with Roger Avary and Alex Proyas, is launching its next TV project with AI sci-fi series Kira.

Ex Machina’s sales partner K5 International will be launching pre-sales on the entirely AI-generated project at October’s MIPCOM market in Cannes.

Production is due to get underway shortly on the six-part epic drama, which is created and directed by French filmmaking and cinematography duo Damien Steck (DoP on Tribeca entry Cherry) and Julien Petit (Cherry). The series is written by Steck and Petit with Ex Machina co-founder/CEO and veteran film producer Marco Weber (Igby Goes Down) executive-producing. 

The synopsis reads: “In the far future on the living planet Djena, Kira, a young girl with a great destiny navigates an ever-evolving landscape and mysterious factions to find her missing father and bring balance to her world”. Above and below are first-look concept images.

Steck and Petit have worked on shorts, features, commercials, documentaries and branded content and previously won the Black Dolphin for Best Director at the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards. With National Geographic and UNESCO, they spent four years producing documentary Al Safar with the Misk Art Institute.

Kira marks the second TV IP for Ex Machina after Space Nation, which has Brazil’s Globoplay and Utopai Studios as co-producers. Both shows will have fully completed pilots to be screened at the MIP market for potential buyers.

As we revealed, Ex Machina recently launched a theatrical slate with Mayfair Media Group, starting with two projects from filmmakers Roger Avary (Pulp Fiction) and Alex Proyas, director of I, Robot. The first release, Avary’s Paradise Lost, is scheduled for summer 2027, followed by Heaven in summer 2027.
