Indonesia, Australia deepen immigration and crime fighting cooperation

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Australia have agreed to strengthen cooperation on immigration oversight and combating transnational crime, including cross-border online scams.

At a bilateral meeting in Jakarta on Friday, October 23, Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra met Australian Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke.

"Through inter-agency cooperation, both countries should strengthen information sharing, institutional coordination and effective responses," Yusril said in an official statement released on Monday.

The ministers also discussed intensifying joint efforts to combat cross-border online scams, whose increasingly sophisticated operations have become a growing concern.

Yusril praised Australia's commitment to maintaining strong bilateral ties, saying the longstanding relationship provided a foundation for broader cooperation.

"Indonesia and Australia have built strong bilateral relations over the years. We hope this partnership, grounded in mutual trust and respect, will continue to grow," Yusril said.

Burke echoed Yusril's remarks, highlighting growing trust and closer cooperation between the two countries' law enforcement agencies.

Cooperation between the two countries' agencies was growing, Burke said, adding that bilateral relations and mutual trust had strengthened collaboration among their law enforcement agencies and personnel.

The meeting ended with both sides reaffirming their commitment to closer institutional cooperation on law enforcement, immigration management and border protection.

Both governments said sustained cooperation could benefit their citizens while contributing to regional stability and security.
