‘Nothing Will Come Easy’ –Swiatek Admits 2026 Has Been Toughest Season

Former world number one Iga Swiatek has candidly admitted that she is enduring the toughest season of her professional career, even as she digs deep to secure qualification for the prestigious WTA Finals for the sixth consecutive year.

Swiatek recently notched her 40th win of the year, reaching the milestone for the fifth consecutive season, following a dominant run that included a quarterfinal appearance at the China Open in Beijing and a swift victory at the Wuhan Open.

Having captured just one title this season, a hard-earned victory at the Canadian Open in Toronto, the six-time Grand Slam champion currently sits outside the automatic qualification spots for the season-ending championship. With tournaments in Wuhan, Ningbo, and Tokyo remaining, time is running out to secure her place among the elite top eight.

Reflecting on the mental and physical hurdles of a testing campaign, Swiatek in a chat with Tennis Update, noted that the struggles have provided invaluable perspective.

“Every year has been so different that there’s no, like, recipe or solution, so I’m happy that even though every year was different and presented different challenges, I’m able to be consistent and for sure this one has been the toughest,” Swiatek said.

“Just the fact itself of pushing even when you feel bad or when it’s not going your way and trying to find different solutions. Probably the biggest lesson will be that nothing will come easy.”

Despite the unfamiliar pressure of chasing qualification late in the year, the Polish star believes the adversity will ultimately strengthen her game moving forward.

“I think I will learn to have more grit and to find also little successes and not only, you know, be happy with the results, but also with the process and everything. You need these things to keep pushing, even if the results are not there.”
