The Indian men’s hockey team has confirmed its spot at the LA 2028 Olympics after winning the gold medal at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya.
India defeated Malaysia 5-1 in the final at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium.
Goals from Harmanpreet Singh (twice), Jugraj Singh, Hardik SIngh, and Shilanand Lakra ensured that it defended its Asian Games gold for the first time.
As a result of that victory, India becomes the third team to qualify for the Olympics after USA, the host, and Belgium, the winner of the FIH Pro League.
It emulates the achievement of the women’s team, which sealed its spot in its own event after defeating China in the women’s gold medal match on Friday.
This is the first time the Indian men’s and women’s teams have won together at the Asian Games.
