One of Netflix's best romance fantasy series is perfectly binge-watchable. Netflix’s fantasy catalog features the Emmy-winning Arcane: League of Legends, which leads the genre with a perfect 100% critical score. Other similar shows on the platform include the animated epic The Dragon Prince, co-created by one of the lead writers of Avatar: The Last Airbender; the live-action One Piece, and the acclaimed Korean drama Alchemy of Souls. Netflix also features The Witcher's dark monster-hunting world, as well as epic historical and political dramas like The Empress, and the action-packed mythology of the animated Blood of Zeus.
Netflix’s romance selection also offers plenty of varied options that spans lavish period pieces, fresh rom-coms, and exciting international dramas. While Bridgerton's opulent Regency-era spectacle undeniably dominates the streaming platform's all-time viewership charts, modern western romance has found a major audience in witty comedies like Nobody Wants This, which earned critical acclaim for its charismatic lead chemistry and realistic look at modern relationships. Netflix continues to solidify its status as the main destination for global hits, including the cross-border drama Crash Landing on You and the Hong sisters' chart-topping hit Can This Love Be Translated?.
The romantasy phenomenon mixes the best tropes of romance and fantasy, with captivating love stories set inside dreamlike fantasy worlds. Due to their focus on romance, their fantasy settings and rules are often easy to follow.
My Happy Marriage Is Netflix's Best Easy-To-Binge Romance Fantasy
My Happy Marriage's First Two Seasons Are The Perfect Romantasy Binge-Watch Plan
The romantic-fantasy anime series My Happy Marriage offers an original take on the traditional Cinderella and arranged-marriage tropes, with a tranquil and beautifully lit aesthetic. Produced by Kinema Citrus, My Happy Marriage spans two complete seasons of thirteen episodes each, plus a recently-released three-episode wedding-themed special released on October 25. When Miyo Saimori's family arranges a marriage with the seemingly ruthless military commander Kiyoka Kudou, she's surprised to discover that Kiyoka treats her with genuine respect, and he helps her unlock her hidden dream-sight powers after uncovering the horrific abuse she survived while living with her family.
My Happy Marriage's story unfolds as a slow romance set against a fictionalized Meiji-Taishō era where political factions clash over inherited supernatural gifts and fight spectral monsters called Grotesqueries. Originally written as a light novel series by Akumi Agitogi with illustrations by Tsukiho Tsukioka, My Happy Marriage was adapted into a manga illustrated by Rito Kohsaka before Kinema Citrus adapted it into the now-acclaimed anime. The light novels deliver extensive internal monologues, while the anime speeds up the pacing. English translations of the original light novels are officially published by Yen Press, while the manga volumes are handled by Square Enix Manga.
My Happy Marriage Can Still Continue Beyond Its Latest Installment
My Happy Marriage Has Two More Chapters To Adapt
My Happy Marriage's three-episode special adapts the events of Akumi Agitogi's seventh light novel volume. The plot focuses heavily on the highly anticipated wedding preparations between Miyo Saimori and Kiyoka Kudou, complicating their progress with a supernatural tongue curse that forces Miyo to inadvertently insult her fiancé. Meanwhile, Grotesquerie outbreaks threaten to disrupt the ceremony and challenge Kiyoka's arrival at the shrine. My Happy Marriage's wedding special culminates in Miyo’s formal transition into the Kudou household and the start of the couple's domestic life as husband and wife.
Since My Happy Marriage's latest anime installment only exhausts content up through volume 7, the remaining two chapters of the manga will likely form the basis of a future full-length third season. Kinema Citrus and Kadokawa adhere tightly to the established light novel story, so any animated content produced beyond the current arc will continue to draw directly from Akumi Agitogi’s published work before ever considering an unwritten, anime-original epilogue. The manga illustrated by Rito Kohsaka trails significantly behind the novels. So far, a full-length My Happy Marriage season 3 has no release date, but that doesn't keep the first two seasons and the recent special from being must-watch.
