A new Paramount+ comedy series has debuted with an exceptional Rotten Tomatoes score.

Since launching in 2021, Paramount+ has built an impressive lineup of hit television series, largely thanks to Taylor Sheridan's empire, including Tulsa King (2022–), Mayor of Kingstown (2021–), Landman (2024–), and Lioness (2023–). Add Yellowjackets (2021–), Dexter: Resurrection (2025–), MobLand (2025–), and more to the mix, and the streaming service certainly provides a mountain of entertainment. Comedy series, however, have been a noticeably smaller piece of the Paramount+ puzzle, something its newest series could finally change.

On the day of its Paramount+ release on November 6, It Gets Worse has debuted with a 90% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The show only has 10 reviews from critics at the time of writing, so its score could change as more are published. With fewer than 50 ratings from users, it does not yet have an audience score.

Produced by A24, It Gets Worse was released on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom and Crave in Canada on October 22, followed by Paramount+ as a Showtime original in the United States on November 22. The streamer has also acquired the series for release in Latin America, Brazil, and Italy.

Created, written by, and starring Leo Reich, the British-Canadian sitcom follows three college best friends (Emily Fairn and Olive Gray) who find themselves facing eviction in London, forcing them to go their separate ways across the city. Along the way, they stumble through messy romances, friendship drama, and the many headaches of adulthood, all against the backdrop of a world seemingly falling apart.

Appearing in recurring and guest roles are Gary Beadle, Simon Haines, Lena Dunham, Andrew Scott, Sean Delaney, Dane Williams, India Mullen, Safia Oakley-Green, John Tothill, Arian Nik, Amelia Dimoldenberg, Blake Harrison, Nicole Sadie Sawyerr, Phil Zimmerman, Billy Rilot, Kirsty Bloom, Clayton Pettet, Luca Kamleh-Chapman, Vicki Pepperdine, Daniel Monks, Emmeline Downie, Oliver Wickham, Shef Phoenix, and Zadie Smith serving as the show's narrator.

Leo Reich, Emily Fairn, and Olive Gray in Its Gets Worse

Overall, critics largely agree that It Gets Worse is a genuinely funny, crude, and sharp-edged comedy with plenty of outrageous moments and a talented cast. But beneath the laughs, though, the series also explores issues such as fading youth, drifting friendships, and the messy transition into adulthood.

Its generational humor gives it plenty of personality, even if some reviewers find the character development and celebrity cameos underwhelming. Overall, It Gets Worse leaves a strong impression on critics.
