People’s Elephant seek bounce-back against Seasiders

Translate

Nine-time champions Enyimba host Warri Wolves in Aba on Sunday (today), determined to recover from a damaging defeat in Matchday nine of the Nigeria Premier Football League.

The People’s Elephant lost 4-2 away to Katsina United last weekend, a result that leaves them 19th on seven points from eight matches, with two wins. They had lost their opening four league matches before responding with two wins and a draw, and they will want to avoid another slide down the table.

Assistant coach Lawrence Ukaegbu has demanded absolute defensive discipline and sharper finishing.

Ukaegbu was in no doubt about the outcome, assuring supporters that the team will defeat the visitors in Aba. Defender Fabian Nwaorie has also said the disappointment has strengthened the resolve of the squad.

The Seasiders arrive in better shape. They are 14th on 10 points with three wins, and they beat Inter Lagos 3-1 last time out.

That win followed a 1-0 defeat to Doma United, and it was a welcome return to scoring form for a side that had managed only three goals in their first seven matches.

History favours the hosts. Enyimba have won five and drawn eight of their 13 meetings with the Wolves since 2009, so they have not lost to them in that time. A victory is crucial if the home side are to climb away from the bottom of the table.
