'Nobody forces actors without consent': 'Mookuthi Amman 2' actor Ineya on intimate scenes in movies, feels performers must speak up

'Nobody forces actors without consent'_ 'Mookuthi Amman 2' actor Iniya on intimate scenes in movies.

Actress Ineya spoke about consent and personal boundaries in the film industry, saying performers must communicate their discomfort before agreeing to scenes they do not wish to do.

She believes nobody can force an actor to perform something against their will. According to her, problems arise when people hesitate to express their concerns at the appropriate time.In an interview with Movie World Media, Ineya discussed intimate scenes, revealing costumes and the importance of setting boundaries during film shoots. She said actors should clearly explain their reservations if they are uncomfortable with particular requirements.

The actress also argued that raising objections only after agreeing to something serves no purpose.

Iniya says actors must communicate their discomfort

Speaking about consent on film sets, Ineya said performers have the freedom to refuse scenes that make them uncomfortable. She specifically mentioned intimate sequences, bedroom scenes, kissing and hugging. The actress also referred to revealing costumes as something performers should be able to decline if they are not comfortable wearing them.

"In the film industry, nobody forces us to do anything. Nobody can make us do something without our consent. If I am not comfortable doing intimate scenes, bedroom scenes, kissing scenes or hugging scenes, I should say so. I should also make it clear if I am uncomfortable wearing revealing clothes. Once I communicate that, if the scene requires it, the filmmakers can use cinematic techniques to shoot it. If I agree to everything and go along with everything, there is no point later claiming that someone misused me or did something without my consent," Ineya said.

Ineya recalls her father's advice about privacy

The actress also shared an analogy her father often uses to explain personal boundaries. Comparing a person's private space to a locked room, she said individuals must decide who they allow into their personal space."My father always tells me that my room is my private space. If someone has to enter my room by opening the door, they can do so only if I unlock it. Once that person comes inside and sits next to me, if I give them an opportunity to touch me or do something inappropriate, there is no point later complaining that they did this or that to me. I should know where to draw the line before unlocking the door and allowing someone in. There is no point saying afterwards that something like this or that happened to me," Iniya added. On the work front, Ineya is part of the ensemble cast of the Tamil fantasy-comedy film 'Mookuthi Amman 2', which stars Nayanthara in the lead role. The movie arrived in theatres on November 6, 2026.
