I still vividly recall seeing Stargate in theaters when it was released, and I never could have expected it to have the fandom it has today. While memorable, it wouldn't truly take off until Stargate SG-1 took the series in a new direction, paving the way for several continuations and a lifelong legion of fans.
The series appeals not only to sci-fi fans but to action fans as well, creating a unique nexus not shared by all its contemporaries. Now you can try Stargate: Pegasus Chronicles, a celebration of the entire series, not just one or two aspects of it.
On Steam, you can find Stargate - Empire at War: Pegasus Chronicles, available for free asa total conversion mod for Star Wars Empire at War. Released in 2006, Star Wars: Empire at War was beloved by strategy fans, and a modding scene started pretty much immediately after its release.
The fact that it was released on PC-only was a huge reason why, back when modding communities were starting to take off even more than they did in the '90s, with increased communication and collaboration among fans. As far as the Stargate conversion goes, this isn't your average modding project:
"Stargate - Empire at War: Pegasus Chronicles" is a total conversion of the popular "Star Wars Empire at War: Forces of Corruption". All currently available factions will be replaced by other factions of the Stargate-universe. The mod encompasses: 4 playable species: The Tau'ri, the Goa'uld the Wraith and the Asurans (space skirmish only). Lots of other, independent species such as the Replicators, the Asurans, the Aschen and many more. Countless new ships and planets. New and completely reworked sounds, animations and effects.
Numerous new and unique multiplayer maps, including a new wave mode. Reworked galactic AI. English and German localization and sounds. Galactic Conquest ("Pegasus Prelude", "The Alliance of the System Lords" & "Stargate Galaxies"). Ground Skirmish This version is the most recent version availible. Because it is a Beta version it allows you to test new features at the expense of possible crashes and balancing issues. In this version we will continue to fix bugs until they are ready for the stable branch of our mod."
Since the mod is available through the Steam Workshop, all you need to do is subscribe to it and you're good to go. Let the download complete, then launch Forces of Corruption (the dark side expansion for Empire at War featuring Tyber Zann). Go to the options menu and enable it in the mods screen.
If you still can't get it to work, you can try this one failsafe the modders have crafted: "Try to launch the mod via the steam launch options by changing them to "STEAMMOD=1145741406" without the quotation marks."
Ever since its release, fans have been loving it: "Finally got to do a Galactic Conquest and finish it! Amazing! Great work, really; one of the best mods for an almost 20-year-old game, and still made it fun and engaging! The only issue I had was collecting all the artifacts for the Orion/ancient ship in the Milky Way, found all 5 and brought them to Earth, but no matter what I did I couldn't get it to Trigger, would also be nice to build more of the Earth Battle Carriers as I found 3 MK2 Gens so couldn't of at least made 3 of them. Other than that, again, Awesome Mod guys, had no idea you guys did the whole series!...well, besides the forgotten series."
Complaints are minor, with most fans loving that Stargate is still alive and kicking all these years later. The fanbase is extremely passionate, so they'll support anything like this.
